BOWLS - The newly formed Bowling Club commenced operations last Friday, and we understand that already a good number of members have been enrolled. The "preliminary canter" was made by Alderman Rushton and Mr. C. A. Stiles, with Mr. C. W. King as referee. Considering the short time at the Committee's disposal, the green was in excellent condition, and there seems every prospect of a successful and interesting Club being formed. At 5 o'clock the ground was christened with a substantial tea, provided by Mr. O. Perkin, of the Railway Hotel, presided over by Councillor J. B. Ellis (the president), others sitting at the tables being Alderman F. T. Ruston and H. F. Corbett, Councillor E. Anderson, Dr. J. P. Rose (capt.), Messrs. G Whaley, C. W. King, G. Russell, F. Reynolds, A. Chapman, F. Barton, and C. A. Stiles (hon. secretary).
